Waiting for your ship

motivational quoteDo not wait for your ship to come.  Swim out to it.  ~ Unknown

Too often we wait for things to happen to us.

We wait for the perfect opportunity.  We wait for the job.  We wait for the house. We wait to say we’re sorry.  We wait to forgive.

We wait for the exactly right moment to jump in and swim.

While patience is an important virtue, if you sit around waiting forever, life will pass you by.

Some things require you to jump in and start swimming.

I’ve learned a few things about this plan though:

  • That ship you see in the distance, it’s a lot farther away than it looked when you started swimming.
  • You’ll get tired a lot faster than you thought.
  • You’re going to want to give up and quit swimming before you get there.

What’s more, when you do finally get there, it’s not going to look anything like you thought it would.

That kind of sounds like a bummer, huh?  Like maybe it’d be better to just sit and wait?

No way sister.

The reward is in the swimming.

The reward is in feeling the burn, the ache and thinking you’re not going to make it.

And finding out you did.

The reward is in the swimmer you become while you’re swimming out to the ship.

So jump on in!

The water’s cold and the ship is far, but it’s totally worth it.

To more love!
