This No Longer Serves Me

family photo

You’re a horrible mom.

Your husband should cheat on you.

You’re fat.

Your kids deserve another mother.

You should die.

Those were some of the comments I received after my very first post went viral.

I talk about the really freeing side of sharing your story, but there are also some risks when you expose yourself. Mainly, that people behind a screen—or even in your real life—will take a jab at your self-worth.

But here’s the deal:

My job is to release my truth, not to manage response.

So after that day, I have never read a single comment on any of my major publications. Not one. They could be saying I’m an award-winning author or a deadbeat mom and I wouldn’t know the difference.

And I’m better off for it.

I refuse to let my worth be defined by someone else.

Whether you’re searching for validation online, or from a friend who just can’t reciprocate your love, know that you have every right to close your screen, stand up, and say,

“This no longer serves me.”

We should never have to defend our truth.

Our only obligation is to tell it.

To More Love,

Stephanie
