A few years ago two separate friends encouraged us to get dinner with these two. (Thank you John and Libba!) Initially, it was a little bit awkward, kind of like being set up on a couples blind date. But this friendship has turned out to be a treasured gift in our lives.
Elizabeth and Jim lead a non-profit called Marriage Boot Camp.
They offer workshops to heal hurting relationships, yes on TV, but also in-person all across the country. The beauty of the work they do is that they focus on the power of each individual to affect change in the relationship. They really work to heal hurting individuals. They help people discover and understand themselves better so they can show up better in their marriage relationship, and all their other relationships too.
We were “set up” to be friends, but Jim and Elizabeth have taught us so much.
There have been many a casual dinner date that quickly turned into open hearts and wide eyes as we’ve leaned in to learn from their wisdom. They’ve spent 20 years working in-depth with couples so not one single side glance gets past them. It’s fabulous!
Elizabeth as become a dear friend, a trusted confidant.
She instantly won my heart with her no-nonsense straight-to-the-point, but warm and loving style. 😉 She’s not afraid to tell it all and to tell it, just like it is. And she’s not afraid to offend you if she knows it will help you. She’s completely comfortable sitting with imperfection, yours or hers.
She’s hilarious, adventurous and fun.
And she’s wise. She is so wise. Her story has not been an easy one to live. She has been through some trials that would have taken most people right out of the game. But not Elizabeth. She learned that it was up to her to decide what to do with what she’d been given and she’s been making this world so much more beautiful ever since.
I am beyond thrilled to announce that we’re partnering up to lead the group exercise next week at the HeartStories Girl’s Night Out in Frisco. I sure hope you can make it out to meet Elizabeth and experience her wisdom first hand. What we have planned is going to be full of laughter and growth. You won’t want to miss it.
There’s so much more to share, but for today, let her life and love be an example of what it can look like to come from a very imperfect past, that could have ended really poorly, and make choices, over and over again, to make something beautiful instead.
You can make those same choices too. You’ll get to make a few today.
It’s up to you.
to more love,
Crystal
P.S. If you’re not able to be there, you can buy her book on Amazon. And don’t worry, I am working hard to convince her to partner with us more often! hint, hint 😉
