When I saw this picture of Krystin (our social media gal) during our Holiday Ready GNO, I laughed out loud. I had no idea what was happening in that moment, but my mind instantly begin making up hilarious stories. Because that’s what our brains are wired to do when we don’t’ have all the information in a situation, we fill in all the gaps.
(Scott wrote an entire book about this!)
Of course, at first, it began with the one about me being up at the front, saying something embarrassing, that caused Krystin to bury her face in her hands, and she was only peeking out because Miranda wanted to grab her photo. But then, I started in with all the things I could be thinking in that same pose. It quickly spiraled into all the hilarious holiday memes I could make about my current life right at this moment. Like the fact that today is the last full day of school before we leave for Christmas and I’ve literally wrapped TWO gifts. Count ’em, 1, 2. That’s it. Yep. Or it could be that I haven’t packed a stitch of clothing. Or that I haven’t thought once about what we’re doing when we get back.
But my favorite thing about this picture is that Krystin’s eyes aren’t covered.
Whatever she’s thinking, she’s looking it square in the eyes. She’s even got a little mischievous smile under there. It’s almost like she’s saying, “I can’t believe this is happening right now, but I’m still here. I am still in.” That’s the part I love.
That’s the part I want you to see.
When you’re thinking about this upcoming weekend, whether it’s visiting in-laws, wrapping a million gifts, wondering how you’re going to get the gifts, making food, packing to travel, getting your house ready. . . whatever it is that has you stressed, just know this: It’s TOTALLY normal. We are all hiding our faces a little bit behind our hands in astonishment that Christmas Eve is just one short weekend away and there is still SO much left to do. We’re all at least a little tired and ready for some rest, but there is a very clear finish line to cross first. It’s okay to be feeling whatever you’re feeling today, but you’re still here. You are IN the game.
You’ve got this.
In the comments, I’m dying to to hear the meme you’d put with this pic about your upcoming holiday weekend. Girl, we are ALL in this wild weekend together. And when the holiday pressure begins to feel too much over the next few days, practice this line with yourself:
“I can’t believe this is happening right now, it’s hard, but I’m still here. I am still in.
Here’s looking at you, holiday season.
I’ve got you.”
Because you do. Christmas will come and whatever happens, you can choose to be present, and it will be good.
to more love,
Crystal
P.S. I still don’t know exactly what was going on in this pic, but I suspect it had something to do with the fact that a big part of Krystin’s role during the GNO evenings is broadcasting live from the event and her phone died unexpectedly during the evening and simply could not be resurrected.
P.S.S. Now is a good time to be good to your future self by setting her up for that break you know she’s going to need. Sign up for a fun Girls Night On-Demand and put it on the calendar with one of your besties. **hint** It would make a great girlfriend gift!
