Wow! It’s humbling to have a birthday on social media these days. I’m grateful to feel surrounded and loved by so many incredible people. I’ve been thinking about that a lot actually.
After spending five days, fifteen meals around a table, and going up and down a very bumpy road in an old worn out van with these friends, I can’t stop thinking about their influence on my life.
Bringing friends together on a trip could have gone any number of ways, but this trip was probably the single most life-giving experience I’ve ever known. We laughed so hard I (literally) peed my pants. We walked, talked and played. We explored a desolate island, but most of all, we explored each other’s hearts.
I came to know and love these people even more than I did before we left.
They are wise, genuine, kind and good. They are motivated world-changers who refuse to settle for status-quo. They are generous givers. They love with their whole hearts.
I want to be more like them.
It’s no coincidence that on the flight on the way there, I was reading about the importance of surrounding yourself with people who are living the kinds of lives you want to live. I read specifically about the “nudge” of influence, that spending time with people doesn’t change you instantly, it gently nudges you to become more and more like them.
I’ve heard it said that you’ll never be better than the average of the five people you spend the most time with. It’s true that the quality of your life is a direct reflection of the quality of your relationships. We become like the people we share our lives with.
Think about the people you’re sharing life with.
What affect are they having on you? What do you talk about when you’re together? Where are you going? What are you thinking about as a result of those relationships? Are those things you want for your life?
If they asked themselves these same questions regarding their relationship with you, what would they say?
It’s up to you to decide the kind of person you want to become and who holds the power to influence the way your journey will go.
Show me your friends and I will show you your future.
Is it what you’re hoping for?
to more love,
Crystal
