You will find as you look back on your life that the moments that stand out, the moments when you have really lived, are the moments when you have done things in a spirit of love.
~ Henry Drummond
As I read that quote this morning, I did a double-take and read it again. Then I paused and thought about the moments in my life that stand out and it’s true. They are moments filled with love between people. They were either me showing love to someone or someone showing love to me.
When I think of the moments I’ve really lived, I’ve never been alone. Each of those moments involves a relationship, a connection with someone else.
It involves someone showing love.
I think of getting my driver’s license, my poor dad was there, holding on for dear life, showing me the kind of crazy love only a parent can show. College graduation, my parents and two sets of grandparents where standing beside me. When I bought my first house to renovate it, my parents carried that note until I could buy it back. When Scott proposed to me, he knelt down first, to wash my feet.
When I walked down the aisle, in a room full of friends and family, to give my heart and my life to Scott, the spirit of Love filled that room.
When my brother-in-law passed away unexpectedly, I learned to show love in a whole new way. When each of our boys were born, the depth of love I felt, both flowing from me and to me from Scott, can’t compare with any other moment in my life. Holding and nursing new babies was connecting in a spirit of love like no other.
The countless memories of friends showing up in my life when I needed them most. The opportunities for me to show up for their big moments. I could go on and on, but all the big moments, the ones I remember, involve someone showing love.
So I’d modify that quote a bit to say,
You will find as you look back on your life that the moments that stand out, the moments when you have really lived, are the moments when things have been done in a spirit of love.
Love connects us in ways nothing else can.
As you go through your day today, show love every chance you get.
In the end, nothing else matters.
to more love,
Crystal
