It’s Friday! Let’s keep replacing the noise with beautiful music. Hear about the song that makes Crystal Gornto’s heartbeat.
Song: More Heart, Less Attack
Artist: Needtobreathe
Year: 2014
Genre: Alternative Rock
How I found it: Heard one of their other songs on the radio. I bought the whole album and ended up loving this song.
This song makes me feel: The rhythm and melody have a simplicity that feels so natural and easy, yet the message is profound. It gets me fired up inside. I also love the build of the percussion about halfway through. It makes me feel my heart beat.
Favorite Part: I’m not sure I could pick a favorite part. I really just love it all together. I love these lyrics:
Be the light in the crack
Be the one that’s been there on a camel’s back
Slow to anger, quick to laugh
Be the wheels not the track
Be the wanderer that’s coming back
Leave the past right where it’s at
The more you take the less you have
Cuz it’s you in the mirror staring back
Quick to let go, slow to react
Ever growing steadfast
And if need be the one that’s in the gap
Be the never turning back
Twice the heart any man could have
I’m nearly sanctified, I’m nearly broken
Be more heart and less attack
Why this song makes my heartbeat: I love the lyrics because they truly represent how I want to live my life.
I want to be the light in the crack. The one who can empathize with other’s pain.
I’m always trying to figure out how to be slower to anger and quicker to laugh.
Always want to come back home, no matter how far I’ve wandered and leave the past behind.
I want to be increasingly more generous and aware of the needs of others. To hold onto things loosely.
I want to stand in the gap for others in my life who need me.
I don’t ever want to give up. Never turning back.
I try to live well, yet I’m just a flawed human being in the end.
Being “all heart” is often looked down on. Give me a huge heart any day over judgement.
I want to love well.
(It is the second song in each playlist!)
