Strength in the pack

Strength in the pack ~ Crystal Gornto | HeartStories

I mentioned on Monday that I’d share at least two lessons from The Jungle Book with you.  Here’s number two.

Mowgli, the little “man cub” who grows up in the jungle is raised by a pack of wolves.  The mother wolf, Raksha, adopts Mowgli as her own son.  He becomes one of the pack.   As such he grows up under the laws of rules of the jungle.

I guess I’d forgotten about this one.

The wolves, as scary and strong as they seem to me, aren’t independently strong.  In The Jungle Book, you quickly learn that alone, a wolf is fearful.  But their strength is in the pack.

“Now this is the law of the jungle, as old and as true as the sky, And the wolf that shall keep it may prosper, but the wolf that shall break it must die. As the creeper that girdles the tree trunk, the law runneth forward and back, For the strength of the pack is the wolf, and the strength of the wolf is the pack.”

The strength of the wolf is in the pack.

When the wolves try to defeat their foe alone, they fail miserably.  It’s only when they unite and fight together they are able to make an impact over a more powerful foe.  (It’s a powerful scene in the movie, but I don’t want to spoil it too much for you, just in case.)

As I watched that scene, I teared up.  (Shocker, I know.  Me?  Cry in a movie?  No.)  Ha.  I teared up because each of the wolves fought.  They had each other’s back.  As soon as one was knocked out, someone else jumped in.  They didn’t stop when they were tired, hurt, or feeling afraid.

They stayed and fought, together.

That’s how we’re meant to fight.  That’s how we’re meant to live.  As a pack.

Now for me, real inner strength can only be found in a relationship with a God who sustains me, comforts me, loves me.  But let me tell you something about my God.  He gave me sisters to show up for me and hold my hand.

He gave me sisters to look in my eyes and tell me they believe in me.

Sisters who take their turn in the fight for me.   To show up and care for my kids when life goes crazy and I can’t.  To me, they’re God’s hands and feet.

They are my pack.  They are my strength.

The strength of the wolf is in the pack.

The strength of a woman is in her pack too.   We were created to need each other.

Show me your pack. . .  I’ll show you your strength.

Invest your life in a pack of women who will fight with you.

And be a woman who stays in the fight.

to more love,

Crystal
