The twitch

IMG_0183

I took a nasty fall on our ski trip.

I was cruising down a run right under the lift, of course, when all of a sudden, out of nowhere I lost control and did a flip.

Not only did I flip completely upside down, I lost a ski and proceeded to ski backwards down the mountain on only one ski.  I was clawing at the snow and laughing hysterically the whole way.

It was all slow motion.  It was almost as if I wanted to make sure the people on the life above were really enjoying the entertainment.

Luckily Scott was right behind me.  He  brought me my ski, laughed with me, helped me up, and off we went.

Somewhere along the way I noticed my neck started hurting. By the time we got home from the trip my neck was causing so much pain and I had a pounding headache.

I didn’t pay much attention to it at first.

It wasn’t getting better as time passed, my neck got tighter and the headache got worse.

Then I started feeling nauseated. So I went to the chiropractor. She adjusted my neck and I instantly felt better. Then it got worse and worse. The next morning I could hardly get out of bed.

I went back to the chiropractor.  She adjusted my neck again.  She also suggested I take Excedrin to make the headache and neck ache go away.  I did and it helped in a hurry.

Then a strange thing happened.

As I was sitting at dinner that night I noticed my eye twitch.  It twitched again.  It kept twitching and twitching. I started to think I was going crazy. At least I knew I looked crazy. You know, like a character from a movie with the crazy eye twitch?

It was laughable.

In my pursuit to relieve the pain, I didn’t notice the caffeine content of the Excedrin, and I became a crazy eye twitcher.

I know that’s a silly story, but it’s a simple example of how easily we can become something we never intended, if we’re not careful in our pursuits.

So today’s quote is by Jim Rohn.

Beware of what you become in pursuit of what you want.

My dad taught me this one. It’s such a good reminder that in this journey called life, it’s easy to set our eyes on a goal and not notice who we’re becoming along the way.

Are you becoming the person you want to be while you pursue your goals?

If you aren’t, you may want to reconsider your pursuit.

The reverse can also be true:

The intentional pursuit of a generous and meaningful goal will shape you into a person of great character.

Think about where you’re headed today.

What is it that you want?

Who will you have to become in order to get where you are trying to go?

You may want to reconsider what it is you really want.

To more love,

Crystal
