The only way to make a difference

Carly Burson, Tribe Alive & Crystal Gornto, HeartStories

This weekend I had a chance to sit down with Carly Burson, the founder of Tribe Alive, at a little Girl’s Night Out get-together.

She made me laugh, and she made me cry.

Carly’s passion to see all women loving and supporting each other like family, like a Tribe, blows my mind.  She told stories of women in Honduras learning what it means to sister each other through the work of Tribe Alive.  She talked about the day one woman helped her see that outside of where we live and the opportunities we’ve been given, we’re really all the same.

As I listened to her stories, I couldn’t help but notice her strength.

Carly’s mission is clear.  She’s bringing hope to the lives of women all over the world using the her strengths and abilities in the fashion world as her vehicle.  But her real strength is in the threads of humility and compassion that hold it all together.

Carly is bringing people together to change the world, not with a picket line and a boycott of the fashion industry, but with a demonstration of true love and compassion.

Sure, it’d be easier, and maybe feel more productive at first, to just try to make a point to the traditional fashion world.  It be easier to stand back and point out everything that’s wrong and demand that everyone else change before they can win our business back.  But that kind of  power move doesn’t change the world.   Change that makes a difference has to start with relationship.

Relationships don’t make a point, they make a difference.

Carly is making a difference, one relationship at a time.

We live in a time when this is easy to miss.  It’s easy to join the bandwagon of powering up to avoid, picket, boycott and stand up shouting, to make our point.  But we’re a lot more powerful when we humble ourselves and lock arms to care for one another instead.

Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that.  Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.  ~ Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Only love will bring lasting change.

Want to make a real difference in someone or something?  Try on a little more of that today.

to more love,

Crystal
