#YouHadToBeThere

I spent the night at the lake over the weekend celebrating a friend’s birthday. We stayed up late laughing carrying on telling stories and cracking jokes.  At some point in the night, we started making a #ForEverythingWeThoughtWasHumorous.  And I became #TheCourtReporter.  I was recording every single hashtag anyone said in the notes in my phone.  Before I went to bed, I sent out a group text with all of the hashtags recorded & I could hear to them downstairs in the kitchen laughing while they read them.

I laughed myself to sleep.

When I woke up the next morning to re-read the hashtags, they weren’t quite as funny as they had seemed the night before.  Some of them didn’t make any sense without the context of our evening around the fire.  In fact, most of them didn’t make any sense at all if you hadn’t been there.  #YouHadToBeThere

How many times in life do we miss the good stuff because we choose not to be there?

How many times do you miss out on connection because it is easier not to show up?

As you’re presented with the choice to show up this week, do it.

Decide to show up, even when it’s hard.  Even when you don’t feel like it.  Even when you’re too tired.  Even when you’re too busy.

It will be worth it.

I’m not talking about dragging yourself there, out of fear from #FOMO. (fear of missing out)  I’m talking about the choice to show up for your life and show up for the people you love.

Because for the really good stuff, you have to be there.

to more love,

Crystal

P.S.  This post is not at all intended to put guilt on you for times/occasions you really can’t attend.  As you know, I’m a huge proponent of boundaries around life and sanity.  It’s only a meant to be a little fire under your rump to show up, when it’s the right choice, but it’s hard.

P.S.S. This is part 1 of a 2 part note about this little trip . . . stay tuned for the finale tomorrow.  😉
