Yesterday was a huge day for me, and for HeartStories.
Over the past 3 months, Brittany and I have been reading applications, interviewing and checking references for summer interns. It’s been exciting to learn how we can best serve each other as a team this summer though the experiences and stories each of us uniquely brings to the table. We finally got to spend the entire day together yesterday, at our intern kick off meet-up (with the exception of Esther, who joined us virtually from Colorado).
It was a fast and furious and a total blast.
We played a little try- not-to-hit-the-chandelier indoor basketball, to get things started. The energy and creativity they bring is absolutely contagious and inspiring. I don’t think there was one single second of silence the whole day.
But you know what I’m most excited about?
These are women who could get any big corporate internship they wanted. They could, but they chose us. You know why?
Every single one of them is with us for the summer, not because we pay so great (ha) or because they get a big corporate position on their resume. Not even because they’ll get to learn under the wing of an experienced pro-marketer. Nope. They’re here because they have HUGE hearts and big dreams.
They envision the world as a better place and they believe they are part of the answer.
That’s right. These women haven’t let themselves off the hook. When they look at the world around them, they see problems that need solving and they plan to solve them.
They feel responsible to solve them.
They know they’re gifted photographers, designers, and communicators. They have an eye for fashion and a heart for social justice. They’re not buying the story that they have to be a cog in an old system and work their way to the front lines of change. They’re effecting change, starting now.
They’re the movers and shakers of the next generation who believe changing the world starts with each of us doing what we can, right where we are.
I can’t even begin to tell you how excited I am.
You’ll be seeing a lot more of these beautiful ladies around HeartStories HQ this summer. I have no doubt, you’ll be seeing their effects everywhere you look around here.
Encourage them and love on them when you get a chance. Remind them that what they’re doing matters.
Welcome to HeartStories, Esther, Emily, Gabby, Vy, Sam, Arin, Mariah and Gracie!
They’ve encouraged my heart in such a big way already. They’re inspiring me to see more, to do more, and to be more.
Who’s inspiring you?
Who have you intentionally put in your path to get you out of your comfort zone this summer?
Who is reminding you to do what you can, right where you are?
You’re an answer.
To more love,
P.S. We’ll be updating the about page to include links to our interns’ LinkedIn profiles and other ways to get connected. Please reach out to them and support them any way you can.
