When somthing is lurking

What's lurking in the dark ~ Crystal Gornto | HeartStoriesOn Mother’s Day evening at my Mom’s house, my brother-in-law and I had a very exciting conversation about how to locate the evasive dog urine smell that has been lurking in our entryway.   He enlightened me about a product called Doggone Pet Urine Detector.

You laugh, but you can’t smell it from there.

Thanks to Amazon’s insane same-day delivery process, it showed up on my porch at 7  o’clock last night.  It comes with everything you need to get started including these handy yellow goggles, batteries and this black light flashlight.  This setup provided endless fun and amazement for the boys and me last night.  (It provided Scott endless disgust)

You guys.

My carpet looks like a giant Dalmatian puppy in the dark!  There were about 5 spots on the brand new carpet in the front office, that had gone completely undetected.

But that wasn’t anywhere near the end of the fun.

You see, I’ve been trying and trying to figure out how to rid our guest bath of the heinous urine smell that arrived about 7 years ago when the boys started learning to use the toilet.   So I went straight from the office to that bathroom and oh. my. holy. cow.  The drapes I hung when we first moved in 12 years ago?  The bottom two feet are completely stained with stinky, sticky, yellow urine!   Not to mention the walls on either side and the front of the tub.   It’s insanity.

None of this can be seen without this Doggone light!

We spent the next thirty minutes running from room to room investigating everything and freaking out . . . just a little.  I guess it all makes sense, because: 12 years, 3 dogs and 2 little boys.  But it never occurred to me that I couldn’t see the culprit lurking in broad daylight!

It took a friend and some new tools to figure it out.

Our lives work the same way.  Sometimes you know there’s an issue lurking. You sense that something’s not quite right.  But no matter how hard you try to clean it out or work it out by yourself, it just doesn’t ever seem to get better.

Sometimes you need a friend to show you the way.

It’s amazing how our friends have just the right light and goggles we need to uncover what’s tripping us up.  It’s easy to think no one else has been here before, that no one could possibly understand.  But sometimes, all it takes is opening up to a friend who cares, to be enlightened to a whole new perspective.  Suddenly you’re not alone.

Instantly things become more clear.

If you’ve been smelling something funny, it’s time to talk with a friend.  I bet she’ll be ready to help you find your goggles and light.

to more love (and light!),

Crystal
