When I was a little girl, I sang a song in church that I’ve never forgotten.  It’s not a song many grown-ups sing, but I think of it often.  It’s called, This Little Light of Mine.

It goes like this:

This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine.
This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine,
This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine,
let it shine, let it shine, let it shine.
Hide it under a bushel – NO!
I’m gonna let it shine.
Hide it under a bushel – NO!
I’m gonna let it shine,
Hide it under a bushel – NO!
I’m gonna let it shine, Let it shine,
let it shine, let it shine.

When we got to the “hide it under a bushel” part, we’d shout “NO!” with so much enthusiasm, like it wasn’t even close to an option to hide our light.

And then we grew up.

Puberty hits, things don’t go as planned, life gets hard, we get confused about who we are and somehow, we’re not sure we have good light to shine, so we stop shining it at all.

Until. . .

Until we remember that our light is still there, we just need find the switch and turn it on or look at the matches in our hand and strike one.  Sometimes it starts as a small flame, an ember, but together, we can light up the whole world!

If only we strike the first match.

So in honor of Fashion Friday, I’m sharing one simple and fun way you can shine your light.

Fashioned For Freedom Runway Show to fight Human Trafficking | heartstories

HeartStories is thrilled to collaborate to support My Refuge House (an organization in Cebu, Philipines dedicated to the restoration of girls who are rescued from human trafficking) through the second annual benefit runway show on November 5th, at the Frontiers of Flight Museum.

Last year’s show was an incredible evening and a huge success.  This year, as we began planning, the we felt convicted that we couldn’t highlight fashion that was made by people being treated poorly, in an effort to raise money to support girls who’ve been rescued from terrible conditions.

It was an obvious conflict.

So this year, Fashioned for Freedom will consist of socially responsible brands who are committed to changing the fashion industry for the better.  They are brands who are dedicated to ethical practices and giving back.  They empower women and drive economic development.

We simply cannot wait for you to meet!

We have so much fun in store.  HeartStories is hosting a huge pop-up shop throughout the evening to make it easy for you to knock out your holiday shopping in a meaningful way with products that tell beautiful stories of love and freedom.  You’ll have the opportunity to touch, feel and buy gifts that give back, in plenty of time for the holidays.

Not only will you be attending a premiere showing of top fashions by outstanding ethnical brands that give back.  Throughout the evening, you’ll:

• Learn about human trafficking and why it matters

• Discover the significance of ethical fashion and and its impact on people around the world.

• Hear inspiring stories of the girls supported by My Refuge House.

• Knock out your holiday shopping in HeartStories pop-up shop with gifts that give back

• Enjoy hors d’oeuvres and drinks

• Join the fight against human trafficking

• Enjoy an evening out in Dallas, in your finest cocktail attire, while making a profound impact on the lives of people around the world

So save the date for a fun date night with your hubby or a girl’s night out with your friends.   This is a fashion show you’ll feel good about attending.   Get your tickets in advance so it will be a priority on your schedule.

You can buy them here.
