Sometimes one friend is enough

Sometimes you just need a friend ~ Crystal Gornto | HeartStories

Having two boys so close in age was really hard when they were babies and toddlers.  It can still be really hard when they fight now that they are bigger, but for the most part, watching them grow up together and watching them be best friends is one of the purest joys of my life.

I think it’s because I had a sister-best-friend growing up.

I shared stories about my sisters yesterday on the blog and last night as I was putting Noah to bed we were talking about some of those memories.  The more we talked, I noticed that so many were stories of things my sister Kim and I did together.

We were the middle two sisters.

We weren’t either one the “first child” or the “baby”.   There were eleven years of separation between my oldest sister and youngest sister, so it left us together, in the middle.   We were partners in crime.

Best friends and worst of enemies.

So when I watch my boys playing together, or fighting each other, I have this little glimpse of how it might turn out.  And it makes my heart glad, because I know that it’s not about the big moments that are captured on social media.

It’s about those quiet moments on the dock.

It’s about the moments you think you’re fishing alone, when you look to your side and somehow your friend has quietly slipped in beside you, just to sit and watch and wait.  It’s about the times you’re feeling alone in the with your thousands of ‘connections’, when all it takes is a text or a call from one friend – just one – to remind you that you are not alone.

Sometimes one friend is enough.

If you see a friend fishing alone today, slip in beside her.

Be the one.

to more love,

Crystal

P.S. You can still join us tonight as we share stories of what it might look like to be the one.
