Meet Kim Garrett, Founder of Rooted Beauty Skincare

Would you believe me if I told you it’s possible to empower women through your choice of skincare?

Today, you’ll find out for yourself.  Kim is a kindred spirit.  She has a passion for helping women realize their unique beauty and purpose in life.

And it’s beautiful.

Say hello to Kim Garrett, our newest Love Maker!

Hi Kim, It’s hard for many heart-centered female entrepreneurs to step up to be the face of our companies.  What’s that journey been like for you?

The journey has definitely not been easy, but it’s my hope and passion that women around the world can be empowered and equipped to escape oppression, so that’s what keeps me going. The trials that theses women face are far beyond the trials that I am facing through starting this business and hearing their stories is a constant reality check that reminds me of that.

How did you get started?  Where did you get the funding?

I started with a founding partner and fellow classmate from college at a local business incubator in western, PA, called the eCenter@LindenPointe. It was a great starting point and the Executive Director, Yvonne English, is one of my favorite people and has been a huge help a long the journey.

What were you doing before you started Rooted Beauty?

I had just recently graduated from college and was the Marketing Manager for a small local business in Pittsburgh.

Tell us about the moment you knew for sure you had to do something.

For me, this journey has been very much inspired by my Faith. I know that not everyone has the same beliefs, but for me it is my relationship with Jesus that caused my heart to break for women around the world who are victims to oppression, abandonment, abuse, trafficking and extreme poverty.

I’ve always had a passion for beauty and skincare products and wanted to start my own beauty company. When I thought about how much money goes into the beauty industry, I thought that it would be really powerfully to take even just a portion of that revenue and redistribute it to help women – so many women could be helped!

There are so many organizations doing amazing work to help empower women out of oppression; however, the organizations are always limited in their impact by the availability of funds.

It became my dream to take a portion of the billions of dollars pumped into the beauty industry and redistribute those funds to change and empower the lives of women around the world. The larger Rooted Beauty becomes, the more women’s lives will be transformed and the idea of thousands of women’s lives being transformed through the sale of skincare that is healthy and fun for consumers to use was something that I had to step out in Faith and pursue.

Tell us about your give-back model.  How do you do good?

Each Rooted Beauty skincare product is connected to a specific woman’s project and when the product is purchased, Rooted Beauty uses a portion of the funds to provide that woman with vocational training and recovery counseling. This vocational training and recovery counseling empowers her to become sufficient and break free from the chains of poverty and/or trafficking. We have five partnering organizations who come along side the women to provide these services and ensure her recovery is for the long-term. The progress of each woman’s project can be viewed on Rooted Beauty’s website. Once a woman’s project is complete, we sponsor another woman’s project for ongoing impact. So far, Rooted Beauty has completed 18 women’s projects and 11 more women’s projects are currently in progress.

Our goal is to empower 50 women by the end of 2015!

Rooted Beauty was developed with a vision to change the lives of women through innovative and healthy natural skincare products. We are rooted in positively impacting our customers, the environment and women around the world.

1. Customers: by using natural superpower ingredients that are pure, healthy, effective and affordable.

2. Environment: by making informed and conscious packaging selections that are most kind to our earth.

3. Women around the world: by helping them escape situations of extreme poverty and oppression through our Woman2Woman project.

Choose a product, and change a woman’s life.

Rooted Beauty HeartStories

Is there a quote you have on your desk, your wall, or just stored in your heart that keeps you going or lifts your spirits when you’re down?

“Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the decision that something else is more important than fear.” ~ Ambrose Redmoon

What’s the hardest negative soundtrack you’ve in your mind you have to overcome?

Someone who I once looked up to told me that he doesn’t think I have the emotional capacity to be an Entrepreneur. Yes, I am sensitive -however, it’s that same sensitivity that has led me to care so deeply about oppressed and impoverished women around the world and feel the pain of their realities, even though I have never met them. It’s personal comments like that that creep up and cause me to doubt at times, but ultimately, it’s made me stronger.

What brings you the most joy?

Being a positive influence in women’s lives. Whether it is as simple as being a positive influence through providing a woman with skincare that has ingredients that are healthy and safe for her or whether it is giving to help a woman halfway around the world, or even in the US, so that she can become sufficient and break free from the cycle of oppression, I am joyful to help other women realize their unique beauty and purpose in life.

What’s your favorite of all your products and why?

The Raspberry Citrus Facial Wipes because I am always on the go and feel too tired to wash my face sometimes. The wipes are so refreshing, smell great, and give my skin a healthy glow, plus they are loaded with antioxidants, which I love.

What’s the driving force behind Rooted Beauty?

The driving force behind Rooted Beauty is my passion for transforming women’s lives by giving them a chance. With just $200-$500, many of the women we help are able to get vocational training, recovery counseling, a home and supplies to start a business. Our partnering organizations work alongside each woman to make sure she progresses to sustainability. Once given a chance, the women are so motivated and eager that they often take on additional part time work and are self-sufficient in a very short time.

What are you most passionate about regarding your business?

I want to change thousands of women’s lives and give them a chance. I believe the way to create a large amount of resources that could effectively do that is through becoming a national skincare brand and sharing a portion of the revenue to empower women.

This is what I am passionate about and what I was made to do.

Kim, we have no doubt you will chane thousands of women’s lives.  Keep believing.  We believe!

Join me today, in sharing Kim’s story and purchasing her prodcuts, to buoy her on her way, as she leads Rooted Beauty to become a national skincare brand that improves women’s lives.

We can help each other.

To more love,

Crystal

  1. They are for sale at Grove Collaborative! I’m ordering this month with my regular order from this wonderful online company! You’ll find lots to love there,!

    1. I’m clearly challenged, Melinda, so am even more grateful for your reply… I cannot find “Rooted Beauty” on Grove Collab’s site. (??!) Did they rebrand / rename the line?? I scrolled thru ALL of the lotions, and even searched using quotation marks and, although many returns still populated, NONE was Rooted Beauty. I absolutely LOVE the facial moisturizer (it may’ve been mango — my “fav” was so long ago, now I’m unsure)—NOTHING else has ever worked that well on my dry patches, before or since. I miss it SO much!

  2. I love this Rooted Beauty; I applaud Kim’s work, motivations, spirit and the supported backdrops are beyond inspiring! But WHEN will the products again be available for purchase? I cannot seem to find out a shred of current information to that end. Any help or updated would be gratefully received! OxxO
