Flowers in their hair, like they just did not care

This week I’ve been on a field trip with a huge group of 4th graders (and fun parents) exploring Texas history, on a greyhound bus.  We visited The Alamo, The Capitol, The Natural Bridge Caverns, The Bullock Museum. . . on and on.  We crammed everything you can possibly imagine into three days of touring on that bus.  We sweat more than we thought was humanly possible.

We laughed until we cried.

Some of us, who will remain nameless, (uh-hum) might have left the IMAX after watching “The Price of Freedom” with a different kind of tear streaks still running down our cheeks.  What can I say?  I didn’t grow up in Texas.  The passion in that story is all new to me!  There were plenty of wonderful things I could write about, but it was these two lovely ladies at Mission San José who made the cut this morning.

They inadvertently joined our group about midway through our tour.

Each wearing a flower crown over their hats. . . not the Instagram kind, they were so happily strolling along, enjoying the mission.  One might think they would have been bothered by our enormous group, crowding the chapel, but they weren’t.  They just strolled merrily along, snapping selfies and taking it all in like it was all part of the experience.

The wisdom of age can do that if we let it.

I don’t know their stories.  But I think it’s safe to assume, by the flowers in their hair, they’ve made some choices over the years to choose joy.  It would be more like human nature to be frustrated or irritated by impending children on every side.   But not for these two.  They had flowers in their hair, like they just did not care.

They laughed and greeted us as if we were their compadres on the journey.

It was a choice.  A choice to take it all in.  To choose to embrace the positive energy of the group over the frustration of being bogged down by the crowd.

We all get that choice.

It comes in big and small ways a million times a day.

What will you choose today?

I’m looking for my flower crown.

to more love,

Crystal

P.S.  We literally have 2 seats left for tonights GNO.  Come make a flower crown with me!
