Even this will be gone

Is it possible that it’s Halloween already?  We’ll trick or treat with friends and gather mounds of candy tonight, then wake up to November the very next day!

Where in the world did this year even go?

I’ve never been the biggest fan of the spooky Halloween gigs, but over the years we’ve engaged in all levels of dress up with the boys.  We’ve worn everything from two matching Robin Hoods, Fryer Tuck and Maid Marian, to a family of undercover spies, all the way to last years Star Wars theme.  But this year the dressing up has apparently come to a bit of a screeching halt.  Oh we bought costumes.  But one is Army Special Ops and the other an NFL football player, complete with helmet.

Apparently, we’re really going all out at this age.

It’s another vivid reminder that time is moving so fast. Looking at this picture, I really would have guessed it was at least two years ago.  But my phone tells me it was last year.  Last year!  Even just mentioning this get-up would be “so embarrassing” this year.  So tonight, you’ll probably find us in jeans and hats, strolling along with our Army Officer and our pro football player.

Don’t mind us, we’re just carrying the memories of what used to be.

We’re working hard to embrace what is and be intentional about our time together, even amid the hours of homework and hormonal changes.  At least, this year, we’re still hanging out together.  Don’t you go telling me about anything different.

I will plug my ears!

Wherever you find yourself on this little holiday today, let this be a reminder that the days pass so fast.  The years are gone before you blink.

Look for the good.  Let go of anger.  Embrace what is.

Because all too soon, even this, will be gone.

“How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow? Your life is like the morning fog–it’s here a little while, then it’s gone.” ~ James 4:14

Be here now.

to more love,

Crystal

P.S.  This is the whole idea of the “Thoughtful Gatherings GNO” this Thursday.  Come join us on a path to cultivating gratitude in this sometimes chaotic season of togetherness.  Check it out here.
