3 Gratitudes

Did Thanksgiving come and go in a flash and leave before you got a chance to soak up all the gratitude?

I watched a vlog by Jeff Walker on Monday with an easy practice to keep gratitude alive long after Thanksgiving.  I’ve done it for three days now and it’s leaving such a nice trail of gratitude in my life that I thought I’d share it with you.

Jeff simply suggested that before bed each night (for me that’s in bed, blue light shining in my eyes),  write down three wins for the day.  He goes on to explain that it doesn’t matter how big or small the wins are, just write down three things that felt like successes to you during that day.   Jeff then suggests writing down three wins you’re looking forward to tomorrow and 3 gratitudes for the day.

I don’t know about you, but if I’m writing in bed when my mind thinks it’s sleepy time, I don’t have nine complete thoughts in me. (just ask my friends who did the writing challenge with me.  It gets a little iffy if I get on a roll once I’m horizontal)  So, I’ve modified the just a smidge for myself.   If it works for you as is, by all means, do all of them.

I’m taking baby steps.

For the last three nights (one morning), I’ve simply been journaling in my Day One app 3 things I’m grateful for from the day.

I thought this was simply a practice for more gratitude, but in addition to a grateful heart it has brought more meaning and peace to me over the last three days.  Just setting aside a couple of minutes to really think about the good things that have happened during the day is making big changes in my heart.  And my list keeps going beyond three.

I’m finding that I’m grateful for challenges and what they produce.  I’m extremely grateful for special moments with Scott and my boys.  I’m grateful for time with my parents, sisters, and friends.  I’m grateful for even the smallest of victories at work during the day.

If you’re in a funk or just needing some peace and rest for your heart, I encourage you to try it.  Commit to a week.  Don’t miss a day for a week.  Just scribble out 3 things your grateful for, no matter what, over the next seven days.  It will shift your perspective.  I give you a money-back guarantee! 😉

Think of 3 gratitudes right now.

Just try it.

to more love,

Crystal

P.S. If tomorrow comes and realize you dozed off before you remembered, do it as soon as you open your eyes.  I’ve already done that too. 😉 It works great that way too!
